2 September 2000 – Midday Jim and I took a taxi over to The Stanley Hotel, an old Colonial relic in the middle of town with a street side café. We ditched our taxi after reaching yet another traffic jam, all too common in Nairobi – a city of two million and almost no traffic lights. Walking through the crowded streets, we window shopped and entered a couple of curio shops filled with overpriced items or ‘antiques’ made yesterday and ‘aged’ with shoe polish.
