13 February 1999 – An American friend David Park was in town so we invited him to Fatar, a Hungarian restaurant recommended by one of my taxi drivers – they recommend the best local places. Dinner was very good – I started with mushroom soup, which had sour cream plopped in the center, and then I ate Beef Gylous, which was divine. Seventy-five percent of my beef was cooked to a perfect medium rare and I left the remaining overcooked meat. Served with the beef were small egg noodles and corn mixed together. Jim ate bean soup and fried liver. David enjoyed stuffed cabbage. We all shared a plate of pickled gherkins – I love sour pickles. To our astonishment, we were forced to drink Belgium beer since the restaurant had no Hungarian beer!
